Pact
Collaborating for sustainability along the value chain
ABOUT
The Furniture Pact is an industry-led, collaborative initiative that promotes and upholds common sustainability goals for the furniture sector in Italy, including its value chain.

Supported by shared expertise and the rigourous methodologies of SDA Bocconi’s Sustainability Lab, the Pact’s members aim to take the lead in reducing the sector’s impact on the environment and society with targets covering circularity, climate impacts, energy efficiency, community and people.
FOCUS AREAS
Our 7 pillars of sustainability
Furniture Pact members promote individual and collective action throughout their value chain and among their stakeholders.
By 2025, members are committed to adopting an integrated sustainability strategy based on the Pact’s seven sustainability pillars. The strategy, which must be approved by the organization’s highest governing body, shall outline the mechanisms and processes that are necessary to collect and report the data across the seven areas. Members are free to adopt strategies that are best suited to their organization, given that these are in line with internationally recognized standards.
01/

Climate
In line with international agreements, members transparently measure and report their direct and indirect emissions while committing to long-term and interim targets for reduction.
02/

Eco-efficiency
By 2025, members must implement an energy-saving plan aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing the impact of their business activities.
03/

Product stewardship
Members are committed to adopting eco-design principles to improve the sustainability of products throughout their lifecycle, as well as obtaining relevant certifications and raising awareness of the environmental impact of products to clients.
04/

Circularity & upcycling
Design for reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling to keep products in the circular economy. To meet the Pact’s 2023 “zero waste to landfill” target, members are forging synergies across the supply chain and improving traceability and disassembly.
05/

People
Create and implement mechanisms and policies to promote diversity and equal opportunities and eradicate discrimination across the value chain. Furthermore, members promote fair working conditions and continuous training for professional growth.
06/

Community
Members are committed to contributing to the social, cultural and economic development of the communities in which they operate. Furthermore, they are transparent in communicating the value generated and distributed within these communities.
07/

Supply Chain
By 2025, members will adopt an ESG policy for supplier selection using social and environmental parameters. Collaboration between suppliers, research centres, associations and other third parties are key to success.
